At Mantrailing Lancashire, we have been working with dogs for over two decades. Our mission is to help every dog reach their full potential through evidence-based, force-free training. Whether you are starting a new journey with a puppy or looking for a specialist outlet for a high-drive dog, you can be confident that your training is guided by years of professional expertise.
Our passion for adaptive training is constantly refined by our own pack of four dogs, predominantly Terriers and Terrier mixes. We have always been drawn to the tenacity and drive of Terriers, but their independent nature has also made us better instructors.
Because Terriers often prefer to work on their own terms, they have taught us the importance of thinking outside the box. What works for one dog may not work for the next, and this "Terrier-tested" flexibility is a skill we bring to every client. Their high prey drive and enthusiasm require a trainer who is patient, creative, and highly adaptable—qualities we pride ourselves on. You can meet our personal team here.
Our specialization in scent-based sports grew from a very personal place: the experience of owning a reactive dog. We understand that owning a dog that struggles with others can be a difficult and often isolating journey. Traditional classes are often unsuitable, and the sheer amount of conflicting advice online can make navigating daily life feel like a minefield.
We discovered that Scentwork and Mantrailing offer the perfect solution for dogs of all temperaments. We qualified as a Scentwork Instructor in 2018 and Mantrailing Instructor shortly after because these sports provide:
Individual Focus: Every dog works one-on-one, making it a safe and highly effective environment for reactive or anxious dogs.
Confidence Building: Scent based sports are a therapeutic tool that builds focus and mental resilience without the need for specialised or expensive equipment.
Inclusivity: Mantrailing is a low-impact, high-engagement activity that is adaptable for any age, breed, or physical ability—for both the handler and the dog.
Our instruction is strictly force-free and reward-based. We believe that a successful working partnership is built on trust and motivation; just as we expect to be compensated for our work, we believe dogs should be "paid" with food or play to keep training fun and effective.
To ensure we provide the highest quality instruction, we are committed to continuous professional development (CPD). We regularly travel across the country to attend workshops, complete new qualifications, and undertake rigorous assessments. This dedication ensures that the training you receive at Mantrailing Lancashire is founded on the most current and effective behavioral science.
